TUESDAY “JAZZ AT THE REP!” SERIES
The concept for Jazzgrass was born in 1999 by pianist Barnaby Finch to honor and explore the newer and more progressive side of traditional Bluegrass music.
Jazzgrass incorporates the influences of artists like Vince Gill, Ricky Scaggs & Allison Krause who represent the vanguard of this exciting new sound while also featuring the traditional sounds of past Bluegrass masters like Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs and the Weavers to name a few.
The current Jazzgrass lineup features Don Reed on mandolin, dobro, and guitar. He’s a famous virtuoso/songwriter who’s performed with J.J. Cale, Dick Dale, Ian Tyson, Jackie de Shannon and is the veteran of countless recording sessions. Lily McCabe, from the Portland area, is on fiddle& vocals, She is a talented performer with a gorgeous tone, who plays at major music festivals, and also performs and records with her partner, Wayne Cameron, is in a popular duo called “Swift Pony”. The rhythm section is anchored on bass is Bill Saitta, one of the busiest musicians in the Southern California area, and Jeff Olson on drums, who plays and records with David Benoit, David Garfield, Scott Wilke, Tim Weisberg and many others. Rounding out the band is stellar guitarist and educator Sean Longstreet. Pianist Barnaby Finch is the musical director.
Barnaby Finch has toured and recorded with jazz artist Tom Scott as well as Lee Ritenour, Ronnie Laws, Alphonse Mouzon, Boz Scaggs and Lionel Richie. His piano was featured on the Lionel Richie/Diana Ross hit “Endless Love”. He was in the house bands for the “Pat Sajak Show” and the “Carol Burnett Show”. In the early 1980’s, Barnaby was tapped by George Benson, as conductor and musical director as well as his pianist.
