“As a working actor, my favorite part of the job is always the discovery.” – Alix Korey
Beginning Acting will teach you what it means to BE an actor; how an actor reads a script, how an actor builds a character, how an actor works with scene partners.
During the course, students will work on monologues and two-character scenes in a safe and supportive environment.
Alix Korey is a veteran of ten Broadway shows, the last being the recent revival of Fiddler On The Roof as Yenta the matchmaker. Others include co-starring roles in All Shook Up, Chicago, Neil Simon’s 45 Seconds From Broadway, Triumph of Love, Ain’t Broadway Grand, and Pirates of Penzance. For her many Off-Broadway appearances, she received two Drama Desk nominations, an Outer Critics Circle nomination, and a Dramaleague award. She has appeared in numerous films and prime time TV shows, and has released two award-winning solo CDs. For 15 years, she taught at NYU in the Tisch School’s Cap21 program, and after relocating to California, at the Musical Theatre University Arts Program. Alix is one of the founders of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, and has recently released a live concert album benefitting that organization. Here in the Coachella Valley, she has performed in five “One Night Only” evenings at the McCallum, and has performed her solo show at Cabaret 88’s at the Annenberg.
