The Competition is Now Open for Submissions
From June 1 through August 15, 2021, Coachella Valley Repertory will conduct its 2nd Annual Writing Competition, accepting submissions. All entries must be postmarked by August 15, 2021. This contest is designed to inspire the Valley’s future authors and playwrights to submit their creative best. Any student, whether in public, a private or home school setting is eligible to compete in the following categories:
Category 1 – Middle School Students
Category 2 – Freshman/Sophomore Students
Category 3 – Junior/Senior Students
Students may write on any topic, theme or style. Aspiring storytellers can submit a monologue, scene, short play, short story, poem, article or other creative piece. While you can draw on your life experience, this should not be an autobiography.
Cover Sheet Requirements for All Submissions
Along with your submission, please include a cover sheet with the following information:
Email Address (if any)
Date of Birth
Category of Submission
Name of School
Submissions may be handwritten or typed. There is no font size requirement or spacing requirement
for typed documents. Handwritten documents must be legible. Focus should be given to grammar,
spelling but content is the most important factor in this competition. Submissions may be any
length, though submissions cannot exceed 5,000 words.
All submissions will become the property of Coachella Valley Repertory, and cannot be returned. Writing submissions will be judged by best-selling author Hal Gershowitz, journalist Bruce Fessier and Kajsa Thuresson-Frary. The decision of the judges is final.
All submissions not selected for the top three prize places will receive a Certificate of Completion and a $20 Apple gift card. Three winners will be selected in each Category and have the opportunity to read their piece on stage at CVRep.Cash prizes will be awarded in each category as follows:
1st Place: $500
2nd Place: $250
3rd Place: $100
